Mission Statement
Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to:
Rehabilitate injured and orphaned native wildlife in Central Virginia, and educate our community about the needs and value of the natural environment.
Overview
Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary rescue, rehabilitates and releases orphaned and injured native wild animals using trained and licensed wildlife rehabilitators. In early 2015, Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary opened a new and dedicated rehabilitation facility in Shipman, Virginia. This facility includes administrative space, isolation rooms, a nursery for baby birds and mammals, a quarantine shed, an incubator, and many purpose-built animal enclosures. Trained staff, interns and volunteers provide species-specific food and care to ensure that animals are strong and ready for eventual release. Several resident, nonreleasable animals live on the property including Jack, a red-tailed hawk blind in one eye, and Esperanza, an opossum with a damaged tail.
