“Heart Work” in Philanthropy

November 16, 2017

On Tuesday, our community came together to celebrate the incredible impact of philanthropy on our nonprofits and the people and communities they serve. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the 10th Annual Philanthropy Day luncheon, and to our sponsors, volunteers, and host committee members for making the day so special.

Our keynote speaker, Michael F. Suarez, S.J., captivated the room as he urged guests to consider how much we focus on “resume virtues” – quantified in skills, accolades, and success – versus “eulogy virtues”, those that truly matter and for which we’ll be remembered – our humility, generosity of spirit, and capacity for love. He encouraged us all – as philanthropists, nonprofit professionals, and citizens of Charlottesville and the region – to value strategy and metrics, but not to the exclusion of the “heart work” in our daily interactions and every day lives.

Check out the picture gallery from the event. We’ll also have video and slides from Michael Suarez’s talk up on our website soon so that everyone can hear the day’s inspiring message. For now, additional event coverage is available on Charlottesville Tomorrow and NBC29.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
