The Foundation seeks Community Advisory Committee candidates who:
• Live in our service area including the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, Buckingham, Greene,
Fluvanna, Louisa, Nelson and Orange counties
• Have strong ties to their communities and are committed to service
• Possess a broad range of unique skills, perspectives and expertise across race, socio-economic
status, gender, geography, sector, and lived experience
• Are directly impacted by and knowledgeable about inequity and social disparities; particularly
people of color and those who live in rural communities
• Share our desire for a vibrant, thriving region that works for all

Annual Time Commitment (including committee meetings, special events, work outside the board, etc.)

Community Advisory Committee members serve three-year terms which are renewable up to one
time. Committee members are asked to attend 4-6 meetings per year, review grant proposals, guide
grantmaking policies, and allocate funds for the discretionary grantmaking budget. Each meeting lasts
approximately two hours, and one full-day retreat lasts approximately six hours. Meeting dates &
locations are to be determined; however, meetings generally occur in January, March, May, July,
September, and November. If meetings are held in person, snacks and meals will be provided as
appropriate and transportation & parking expenses will be reimbursed.

The Foundation’s grant strategies are rooted in best practices in grantmaking, community engagement

organization in service of advancing our mission for improved quality of life for all in the Charlottesville
region.

The Community Advisory Committee partners with the Foundation team to:
1. Consider and establish those policies that are required to effectively carry out grant programs.
2. Review and set funding allocations for each grant program in the portfolio.
3. Ensure equitable distribution of grant dollars by monitoring how resources are accessed and
prioritized.
4. Review and approve grant funding strategies and recommendations presented by the
Foundation team.
5. Make recommendations for grant approval to the board that reflect the equity impact of the
grants.
6. Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of each portfolio program individually and as a group to
guide future action.
7. Provide guidance on individual grants where outcomes are divergent from goals and
recommend change(s) to programs based on experience and desired outcomes.
8. Monitor the performance of strategic partnerships related to the grant portfolio framework.
