A Change to CNE’s Job Board

As part of CNE’s ongoing Justice & Equity work, we are evaluating our own practices, programs, resources, and services, listening and being responsive to our members, and as always, orienting ourselves toward leading practices. And there’s a shift happening in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors toward more equitable hiring practices—cultivating more diverse candidate pools (here are some local job posting ideas to attract a more diverse candidate pool), banning salary history questions, and requiring salary transparency.

Below are just a few resources that speak to why it’s become a recommended and beneficial practice amongst various sectors, and amongst capacity building organizations like CNE, to disclose salary in job postings:

In an effort to move ever closer to equitable hiring practices, as of October 17, we will require organizations to include hourly wage and salary information to post to CNE’s Jobs Board. Our Jobs Board is one of the most visited pages on our website and has become a go-to in the region to post and search for nonprofit jobs—it’s a free CNE member benefit to post, and otherwise $50.Research has shown that the exclusion of salary information disproportionately impacts women and people of color. And it’s important to us to make the change toward requiring salary information as part of our equity work, and because we believe it benefits our members, nonprofit employees, and the nonprofit sector as a whole.

We encourage you to reach out if you have questions, concerns, feedback on how this change might affect your organization, or would just like to think through nonprofit hiring practices with us. We’re in it with you, and want to thank you for partnering with us in this work.
