BOARD ACADEMY CELEBRATES 10 YEARS
On Friday, May 3, CNE held our annual Board Academy Graduation at Building Goodness Foundation, while also celebrating the Board Academy’s 10 year anniversary. Over the years, 234 participants have honed their skills to more effectively serve on nonprofit boards. We’re incredibly proud of our graduates and all that they have done in the community over the years.
As part of CNE’s larger commitment to equity in the nonprofit sector, CNE uses Board Academy as a tool for broadening the path for board participation. This year, 37% of participants came with no, or very little, board experience, 29% identify as African American or Latinx, and 20% were first-generation college students. We would like to thank our community for supporting Board Academy — especially the Smyth Foundation and Hantzmon Wiebel — as well as the alumni and community members who have contributed to the Russell Willis Taylor Scholarship Fund. Thanks to their generosity, we have provided scholarships totaling $9,950 to 20 Board Academy participants in the last three years alone. While scholarships do not cover the full cost of the program, they do increase access for those who might otherwise be unable to participate.
Thank you, also, to the dedicated faculty that have contributed to Board Academy and the Scholarship Fund. Their expertise and generosity over the past ten years have contributed immeasurably to the success of this program.
