Local Advocacy

March 14, 2019

Last summer, Charlottesville City Council began a review of the Agency Budget Review Team (ABRT) process –  the process by which the City funds nonprofits. The City is looking at how to revise the process to bring further alignment between grant awards to nonprofits and the City’s strategic priorities.

Earlier this year, Council considered and tabled a resolution to establish an ABRT priority-setting commission to take time to obtain individual client and nonprofit feedback on ABRT and the proposed changes to the process. This feedback will be shared with Council at a spring ABRT work session.

CNE has been asked by the City to coordinate a feedback loop for all nonprofits, including ABRT grantees past and present, ABRT applicants, and nonprofits who have not yet applied for City funding. That feedback loop will include an online survey, a community forum, and a final report to the City.

NONPROFIT ABRT SURVEY

Please take a few minutes to complete this survey – open to all nonprofits whether or not you’ve previously applied for and/or received ABRT funding.  We invite you to share this survey within your nonprofit networks and encourage others to participate too. To help inform this review process, we need strong sector participation.

Ideally, the executive director or a senior leader with global perspective about your organization and any past involvement with ABRT will complete the survey, which should not take more than 15 minutes.  Responses will be aggregated to ensure anonymity. The survey will close at 5pm on March 25.

We hope you’ll ensure that your voice is part of this important conversation! Thanks in advance and please do not hesitate to contact Ryan Jacoby at rjacoby@thecne.org or (434) 951-9046 if you have any questions.

SAVE-THE-DATE FOR NONPROFIT ABRT MEETING

On Tuesday, April 9 CNE will host and facilitate a community meeting for area nonprofits at CitySpace.  We will serve a light breakfast at 8:40am, start promptly at 9am and finish at 11am.  The purpose of the meeting will be to review and discuss the results of this survey and to refine feedback to include in the final report for an upcoming City Council ABRT work session. All nonprofits welcome.
