Stand Up, Fight Back

November 08, 2018

Center for Nonprofit Excellence, its board of directors, and its staff condemn in the strongest voice the recent murders of members of the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and the African American citizens in Kentucky. These acts remind us of the attacks our own community suffered two summers ago, and the three lives that were lost at that time. Our hearts ache for the communities affected by this horrific violence and what feels like an endless news cycle of tragedy in our country — including today’s reports of the deadly events in California.

CNE is committed to strengthening the nonprofit sector and to working hand in hand with the business community and local government to advance vibrant and just communities. By working toward economic opportunity for all, equal access to quality health care, housing and education, the elimination of discrimination, and other critical issues, nonprofits in Charlottesville and its surrounding counties are forces against injustice and bigotry. In addition, CNE believes it is important to speak out against hateful speech, discrimination, and violence and to speak out for communities where all citizens can thrive. Advocacy is an important tool in the effort to promote tolerance and justice in our communities, country, and the world.

We encourage fellow board members to consider ways to make your voice heard on behalf of your nonprofit’s mission and, most importantly, to amplify the voices of those you serve. You can start by reading about the Stand For Your Mission Campaign, which aims to create positive change through board advocacy. You are the voice your mission needs.

Interested in learning about other ways in which you can deepen the impact of your board service? CNE will be accepting applications to Board Academy 2019 until November 15, 2018.
