Clinton and Trump: A Tale of Two Foundations

The 2016 presidential race has focused unprecedented attention on the charity and philanthropy of the candidates. Unfortunately for the nonprofit sector and those who advocate for its beneficiaries, most of the stories printed about both foundations have been negative, not only injuring the reputations of the foundations and their founders, but also harming the credibility of the nonprofit sector as a whole. Through this cautionary tale, this article argues that all nonprofit leaders must assess their governance, management, record-keeping, and compliance reporting to assure that it is compete, as descriptive and easy to understand as possible, and reflective of infused organization and personal values of public accountability and transparency.
